What is a Reformed Church?

A Reformed Church is a Christian Church rooted in the teachings of the Holy Bible, rediscovered in the Protestant Reformation of the 16th century. With the Churches of the Protestant Reformation we believe that:

  • God has revealed everything we need to know for this life, for His glory and our salvation, in His holy and divine Word, the Holy Bible.
  • All people are under the wrath of God because of sin.
  • Deliverance from this wrath is a gracious gift of God received through faith in the one sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross.
  • Believers are called to show thankfulness by godly lives.

Our Confessional Statements

While we emphasize the Scriptures as the only rule for faith, in line with the church of all ages and places we accept a number of creeds or confessions that we believe faithfully sum up the teachings of the Scriptures.

In line with the church of the early centuries, we confess our faith with the words of:

  • The Apostles' Creed
  • The Nicene Creed
  • The Athanasian Creed

Like all churches of the Reformation we have additional confessional documents that reflect the return to true Scriptural teaching. They are:

  • The Belgic Confession
  • The Heidelberg Catechism
  • The Canons of Dort
